Long weekend!!! Hmmm not long enough!!!

This last weekend was a long, fun (for the most part) and very productive one!!!

Starting out on Friday I went to the bookstore and bought “Bitter is the new black” for Book Club (I’m already on page 280!!!), and “Good in Bed” (can’t wait to start reading that one!!!). I also went to Mervyns and bought 2 pairs of earings with the money I had left on the gift card my mother in law gave me for Christmas (I ended up paying only $2, not too bad).

Saturday was a VERY busy day!!! We first went to take Marley Moose to the vet (the whole family attended the “event”), but not just ANY vet, the Orthopedic Surgeon!!! She’s been having some problems with her knees and so we decided to go to the specialist to see what’s up with the surgery and if it was required… Of course, it is (or so he said) and the sooner the better (because she might develop arthritis) but he also said she’s not in pain right now (which we’re trying to prevent, but keep reading the story)… so we had already thought about when to have the surgery and me taking a couple of days off to take care of her (per John’s request, of course, because even the vet said that most of the pet owners he deals with don’t take any time off to be with the pets)… So any way, we were all set… Until we got the quote for the surgery… Between $2860 and $3300 PER KNEE depending on various factors (time she spend in the OR, medication she requires, etc)… Are you bleeping kidding me?!?!?! For that money (the $6600 total) I could get 20 new dogs, or breast augmentation, liposuction and Botox, or pay for a car, or go to Europe!!! But most of all, what REALLY upset me is that it would set us back a bit on our house plans (not for the down payment, but for furniture and/or keeping some safety savings after the big purchases)… With what we’re currently saving $6600 is about a year’s worth of savings!!! I got SOOOOOOOOOO sad L. John kept seeing the “positive” on how this is preparing us for the unexpected expenses that come with kids, but it just breaks my heart to know that she’ll be having those “both knees buckling at the same time” episodes where she falls down and looks so helpless… We kind of decided to let it play out, we’ll keep monitoring her and all that, and we’ll probably end up in the OR once it seems to get worse… but for now, we’ll hold that thought… Hey Janelle, will your hubby consider operating on a dog (at our apartment)??? Even if she’s not 100% after the surgery we won’t sue, I promise!!!

After that we got all quiet… we drove to a place to get something for my car painted (I’m trying to fix it up to sell it this weekend)… then we bought something to eat and went home…

Later we went to the Mossy Nissan in Poway, we had already checked out a “pre-owned” Murano they had there last weekend, and after talking to a few people and comparing prices (even on the Blue Book) we just knew it was a VERY good deal, so we went for it!!! We test drove it (John and I) and bought it!!! I didn’t want to risk somebody else snatching it from under us (although, the way the economy’s going, who knows how fast it would’ve sold). Gawd knows I wanted a black one, but I just couldn’t pass on the deal…

We drove home at around 4:15 and as soon as we got home we started getting ready… We had plans to go The Boathouse in Coronado for our 2nd Anniversary dinner!!! Yup!!! Two full wonderful years of married bliss!!! So quick!!! We couldn’t be happier… so much so that we were running late (didn’t expect the paper work for the car to take that long) and thought that if we were not allowed in because of it we would be happy if we bought something at a fast food place and went and eat it picnic style at the beach or Balboa Park… but they didn’t even say anything about it…

John had coconut shrimp and I had an orange and basil glazed salmon… They were really good… but, for some reason, it made both of us sick!!! LOL Oh well… We enjoyed it while we ate! We talked for a while and reminisced on the last year, all the things we’ve done and learned and how happy we are…

On Sunday I was very active in the morning, cleaning, going to the bank, getting gas and going to Church… I was back at home by noon. We watched the Padres game and then John left to visit a friend. I left the house around 4 to go have dinner with my friends from College. We had a pretty nice time and they were very kind to give me gifts for my birthday.

I spent the night at my friend Claudia’s house because I need to do some paper work for my house (YES… still!!!)… We stayed up late gossiping a bit, it was REALLY fun!!!

Yesterday I got up early and headed to the County’s offices (in Tijuana), the process requires you to go to 3 different places (2 close by, 1 not) and gather 3 different sets of stamps and signatures :-S I did what I needed to do… but you can’t expedite 1 of those signatures (the last one, thankfully) and I’ll have to pick that up tomorrow (Wednesday) between 2:00 and 4:00 P.M… Good thing is, I felt like I got a lot done in a short period of time, so I wasn’t even frustrated or anything.

I was at the house by 11:00 and John had invited some friends to BBQ… The house was still pretty clean… so we just went to buy chips and buns and waited, I “prepared” (put in presentable containers) some salsa and heated up some nacho cheese. We had burgers for lunch so that was nice.

To finish it off I took a loooooooooong bath in the tub and read my book J I REALLY can’t complain of not doing anything this weekend!!!

Este fin de semana pasado fue largo, divertido (en su mayor parte) y muy productivo!

Comenzando el viernes me fui a la librería y compré "Amargada es el nuevo negro" para el Club de Lectura (estoy ya en la página 280!!!), y "Good in Bed" (no puedo esperar para empezar a leer ese!!!). También fui a Mervyns y compré 2 pares de aretes con el dinero que había quedado en la tarjeta de regalo de mi suegra me dió para Navidad (terminé pagando sólo $ 2, nada mal).

El Sábado fue un día muy ocupado! Primero fuimos a llevar a Marley Moose al veterinario (toda la familia asistió al "evento"), pero no cualquier veterinario, al cirujano ortopédico! Ella ha estado teniendo algunos problemas con sus rodillas por lo que decidimos ir al especialista a ver qué onda con la cirugía y si es necesaria… Por supuesto, que si es (según el vet) y cuanto antes mejor (porque ella podría desarrollar artritis), pero también dijo que ella no tiene dolor ahorita (que es lo que estamos tratando de prevenir, pero sigue leyendo la historia)… ya habíamos pensado en cuando fuera la cirugía porque yo iba a tomar una par de días libres para cuidarla (a petición de John, por supuesto, porque incluso el veterinario dijo que la mayoría de los dueños de mascotas que el trata no tienen tiempo libre para estar con las mascotas post-cirugía)… Según nosotros ya estábamos listos… Hasta que llegó el presupuesto para la cirugía… Entre $2860 y $3300 POR CADA RODILLA dependiendo de diversos factores (tiempo que pasan en el quirófano, que medicamentos requiere, etc)… ¿Estás bromeando?!?!? Con ese dinero ($6600 en total) podría comprar 20 nuevos perros, o de ponerme boobs, hacerme liposucción y Botox, o pagar por un carro, o ir a Europa! Pero sobre todo, lo que realmente me molesta es que nos atrasaría un poco en los planes de nuestra casa (no para el pago inicial, pero para los muebles y para mantener algunos ahorros por aquello de los imprevistos después de las compras grandes)… Con lo que estamos ahorrando actualmente los $6600 es aproximadamente un año de ahorros! No manches!!! John seguía viendo el lado “positivo" sobre cómo se nos está preparando para los gastos inesperados que vienen con los niños, pero yo me siento super mal de saber que ella va a seguir teniendo esos episodios de cuando se le “van” ambas rodillas, al mismo tiempo, donde cae y parece tan desvalida… Decidimos esperar a ver qué pasa, vamos a seguir vigilandola y todo eso, y probablemente vamos a terminar operándola, una vez que parezca empeorar… pero por el momento, nos vamos a esperar… Hey Janelle, tu esposo no consideraría operarar a un perro (en nuestro apartamento)? Incluso si ella no queda al 100% después de la cirugía no lo vamos a demandar, lo prometo!

Después de que eso nos quedamos callados un rato… fuimos a un lugar para pintar una parte de mi carro (que se quita), porque estoy tratando de arreglarlo para poderlo vender este fin de semana)… entonces compramos algo de comer y nos fuimos a casa…

Más tarde fuimos a Mossy Nissan en Poway, ya habíamos ido a ver una Murano que tenían allí el pasado fin de semana, y después de hablar con algunas personas y comparar precios (incluso en el Libro Azul) que sabía que era un muy buen trato, así que nos fuimos por él! Lo manejamos un rato (John y yo) y lo compramos! Yo no quería correr el riesgo de cualquier otra persona, se lo llevara (aunque, como está la economía, quien sabe qué tan rápido se hubiera vendido). Dios sabe que yo lo quería en negro, pero no me podia poner mis moños…

Llegamos a la casa alrededor de las 4:15 y tan pronto como llegamos a casa nos empezamos a alistar… Teníamos planes de ir a cenar a Boathouse en Coronado para nuestro 2º Aniversario! Sip! Dos años completos de maravilloso matrimonio! Así de rápido! No podríamos ser más felices… hasta tal punto que íbamos tarde (no esperábamos que los trámites del carro duraran tanto) y pensé que si no podíamos entrar al restaurante a causa del retraso seríamos felices si compramos algo en un lugar de comida rápida y nos lo comíamos estilo picnic en la playa o Balboa Park… pero ni siquiera dijeron nada al respecto…

John comió camarones empanizados con coco y yo un salmón con salsa de naranja y albahaca… Estaba muy bueno… pero, por alguna razón, nos hizo daño! Jajaja… Bueno… Por lo menos lo disfrutamos mientras comíamos! Platicamos un rato y recordamos el último año, todas las cosas que hemos hecho y aprendido y lo feliz que estamos…

El domingo yo anduve en friega en la mañana, limpié, fui al banco, eché gasolina y fui a la iglesia… estaba de vuelta en casa al mediodía. Miramos el juego de los Padres y, luego, John se fue a visitar a un amigo. Yo salí de la casa alrededor de un 4 para ir a comer con mis amigas de la Universidad. Nos la pasamos muy bien y fueron muy amables en darme regalos por mi cumpleaños.

Pasé la noche en la casa de mi amiga Claudia porque tengo que hacer algunos trámites para mi casa (SÍ… todavía!)… Nos quedamos hasta noche chismeando un poco, fue muy divertido!

Ayer me levanté temprano y me dirigí al Palacio Municipal (en Tijuana), el proceso requiere que vayas a 3 lugares diferentes (2 cerca, 1 no) y reunir 3 diferentes series de sellos y firmas:-S Hice lo que tenía que hacer… pero no se puede acelerar 1 de esas firmas (la última, afortunadamente) y tendré que recoger el papel hasta mañana (miércoles) entre 2:00 y 4:00 PM… ¡Menos mal que sentí que alcancé a hacer muchas en un ratito porque ni me sentía frustrada!

Ya estaba en la casa a las 11:00 y John había invitado a algunos amigos para hacer hamburguesas… La casa estaba limpia todavía… así que sólo fuimos a comprar papitas y bollos y esperamos, "preparé" (puse en contenedores presentables) la salsa y se calenté queso para nachos. Tuvimos hamburguesas para la comida y fue una tarde agradable.

Para terminar, me metí a la tina un choooooooooooooorrro de rato y leí mi libro… Realmente no me puedo quejar de no hacer nada este fin de semana!
